Wednesday Jun 08 2011 GIVEAWAY | A pair of passes to see The Trip @ The IFC Center
Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 12:50PM We're giving away two pairs of tickets to see The Trip--the UK comedy garnering rave reviews--opening this Friday at The IFC Center.
> A hilariously awkward road trip begins when Steve Coogan can’t entice anyone but frenemy/fellow actor Rob Brydon to tag along on a plum travel writing gig. Stuck with each other—and worse, virtually no audience—they compete with dueling impressions, unsubtle oneupmanship and shameless bids for attention, in a brilliant riff on celebrity, insecurity and friendship.
HOW TO BE A WINNER
1) Put "The Trip @ The IFC Center" in the subject line of an email addressed totheapiary@gmail.comand send it by end of day Thursday (6/9)
2) If you win, tell your friends via your blog or FB status that The Apiary made you a winner -- it's so easy!
Two winners will be selected at random to receive a pair of passes--you'll be notified on Friday if you're one of them. Passes are good for any screening of the film next week at the IFC Center in New York. You should live in NY if you're going to enter!

Monday, April 25, 2011 at 2:40PM
We've got a couple copies of Gilbert Gottfried's upcoming book to give out. Want one? Here's the description:
> Part memoir, part twisted social commentary, part scratches on the bathroom wall, Rubber Balls and Liquor is Gilbert Gottfried's hilarious first book.
> In the early 1970's, as our nation's youth railed against every conceivable societal norm, a funny-looking teenage Jew started turning up at open mike nights in various New York City comedy clubs. Surprisingly, he didn't suck. That funny-looking teenager is now the even funnier-looking middle-aged comedian Gilbert Gottfried, who despite his transparent shortcomings has managed to carve out a hardly-respectable career and a reputation for shock and awe unrivaled outside the Bush administration. With this scathingly funny book of rants and musings, Gottfried sullies an entirely new medium with his dysfunctional worldview.
HOW TO BE A WINNER
1) "LIKE" this page on Facebook then shoot us a quick email with "Gilbert Gottfried's Book" in the subject line.
2) Do this by end of day Wednesday (4/27).
Three winners will be selected at random to receive a copy--we'll reach out to you on Thursday if you're one of them!
The Apiary | Post a Comment | 5 References tagged Rubber Balls and Liquor in Giveaways Thursday Mar 03 2011 GIVEAWAY | Tickets to an Advance Screening of 'Exporting Raymond'
Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 4:09PM If you've ever struggled with the appeal of Everybody Loves Raymond, you're not alone--apparently, so has the entire population of Russia! Here's the premise of a new documentary featuring ELR's creator, Phil Rosenthal:
> EXPORTING RAYMOND tells the hilarious and intimate journey of one man, considered an expert in his country having created one of the most popular television shows of all time, who travels to a foreign land to help people who don't seem to want his help. When Rosenthal joins forces with Hollywood studio Sony Pictures Television to recreate "Everybody Loves Raymond" for Russian TV audiences as "The Voronins," he finds himself lost in Moscow, lost in his mission, and lost in translation. Rosenthal tries to connect with his Russian colleagues but runs into unique characters and situations that conspire to drive him insane.
I couldn't find a trailer anywhere but I did find a video of a standing ovation it got at a recent film festival. If you live in NYC and are interested in attending an advance screening THIS MONDAY evening (3/7), email us at theapiary@gmail.com by TOMORROW (3/4) at 6PM with Exporting Raymond in the subject line. I'll confirm with you the time and destination if you've been selected--I have a couple pairs to give out.
The Apiary | Post a Comment | 6 References tagged Exporting Raymond in Giveaways Friday Nov 12 2010 GIVEAWAY | Tickets to Colin Quinn's Long Story Short on Broadway
Friday, November 12, 2010 at 5:19PM Hey gang, almost forgot to tell you. We're running TWO great giveaways this weekend. This other one is for a pair of tix to see Colin Quinn's return to Broadway in Long Story Short. Randomly enough, the show is directed by the acclaimed Broadway director, Jerry Seinfeld, who you probably know from his other Broadway smashes: Rock of Ages, Mary Poppins and FELA.
> Comically channeling the demise of great world empires, Colin Quinn uses his “articulate brand of comedy” in taking audiences through an uproarious history of the world in 75 minutes. From his personification of Caesar as the original Italian mobster to his complaints about Ancient Greece and Antigone giving way to Costco and Snooki, Quinn is at his satirical best, taking on the attitudes, appetites and bad habits that toppled the world’s most powerful nations. Colin Quinn Long Story Short proves that throughout human history, the joke has always been on us.
HOW TO BE A WINNER
1) Put "Long Story Short on Broadway" in the subject line of an email addressed to theapiary@gmail.com.
2) Send that email to us by TUESDAY - 11/16
3) If you win, tell your friends via your blog or FB status that The Apiary made you a winner -- it's so easy!
One winner will be selected at random to receive a pair of tickets--you'll be notified Tuesday if you're the one. The tickets are good for select dates between December and January. You should live in close proximity to Broadway if you're going to enter.

The Apiary | Post a Comment | 3 References tagged Lena Dunham , Tiny Furniture in Giveaways Friday Sep 24 2010 GIVEAWAY | The State - 'Comedy For Gracious Living' on CD
Friday, September 24, 2010 at 3:31PM We haven't done a Friday giveaway in a little while, so here's a good one to bring it back: we've got three copies of The State's lost recording called Comedy For Gracious Living, and we're doling them out to anyone who can follow rules. Win one!
> The State premiered on MTV in 1993 and had a successful three-season run, garnering acclaim for its edgy sketches as well as the talented young comedians behind the show. After recording the series finale for MTV in July 1995, the group began working on a prime-time special for CBS called “The State’s 43rd Annual All-Star Halloween Special.”
The Halloween special aired on October 27, 1995, and garnered glowing reviews but, with the aid of little to no promotion by the network, ratings were low so CBS decided to cancel The State’s upcoming New Year’s special. Just months later, The State decamped to the Bahamas, where they spent two weeks in January 1996 recording an album for Warner Bros. Records at Compass Point Studio in Nassau. For reasons unknown, and much to the chagrin of The State’s rabid cult followers, the album remained unreleased for 14 years.
> "I heard once that the '80's Latino pop group Menudo used to turn over their members every three years, to keep the group young," says Joe Lo Truglio “Well this album's been marinating for over four Menudos, we're old as hell now, and 'menudo' means 'soup' which is a dumbass name for a band anyway. Bienvenidos a Gracious Living!"
You can preview Comedy For Gracious Living HERE.

The Apiary | 1 Comment | 3 References tagged Anniversaries , My Damn Channel in Giveaways Friday Jul 16 2010 GIVEAWAY | Look Around You: Season One on DVD
Friday, July 16, 2010 at 2:29PM The DVD of the critically acclaimed comedy series and one of my personal favorites, Look Around You: Season One, comes out on July 20th. From creators Robert Popper (Hot Fuzz), and Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead), Look Around You explores the nonsensical wonders of science as presenters Jack Morgan and Peter Packard guide viewers through a series of Pythonesque spoofs of educational films of the 70's and 80’s.
First premiering on BBC America, and subsequently airing on Adult Swim, the series has been praised by Matt Groening, as "one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen," and hailed by Wired as a "nonsensical blast from the past." In addition to the hilarity of the eight Season One episodes, the DVD includes commentaries by Popper and Serafinowicz, Tim Kirkby, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Edgar Wright, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Michael Cera, Jonah Hill and Tim & Eric.
