Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 7:33AM NOTES--No fainting was reported due to Paul Rudd's appearance. --David Cross was seen exiting the theatre. --Joey Arak, the talented writer of Gawker's hipster bashing column, Blue States Lose, was in attendance. Was he there to bask in the presence of his dark master, Dos and Don'ts creator Gavin McInnes? --A photographer took pictures of the line outside the theatre before the show. During the performance, these photos became material for Gavin McInnes to use as he did a live Dos and Don'ts of the crowd. It was awesome fun for everyone who wasn't mocked. --Tim Harrod has been writing at Late Night with Conan O'Brien for 5 months now. He comes from The Onion and Letterman.Vice Magazine's Gavin McInnesTim Harrod

The scene ended with the Mama Bird chewing up a gummi worm and regurgitating it into Kurt's mouth. --A round of applause goes out to the EROTIC DANCER seen below who stripped down to her pasties to the sounds of a car alarm. The Apiary | Post a Comment in General Interest Friday Jan 27 2006 Inside With: Katie Goan, General Manager of The PITBy: Keith Huang

Friday, January 27, 2006 at 8:56AM Katie Goan knows magic. Seriously, the native Texan once played Merlin in a college production of Camelot. In 2000, Katie graduated summa cum laude ("God, I'm a nerd," she says) from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas, with a BA in theater, then moved to LA where she worked for Golden Performing Arts Center and Theatre Theater. In 2003, she came to New York and held jobs at Roundabout Theatre Company, Class Productions and Ars Nova. Today marks Katie's first full week on the job as general manager of The PIT. The Apiary spoke with Katie briefly about her new job, but not before she could rattle off: "I love animals, I love Texas, I love the beach, I love the PIT, I love mexican food, I love karaoke, and I love being right. HOT!"Katie, congratulations on the new job. So far, can you give us a compare & contrast between working at Ars Nova and working at The PIT?Thanks! Let's just say there was no Management Handoff Cookie Ceremony at Ars Nova. What's up with that? Although, there were no mouse traps at Ars Nova either....What would you say are some of the more difficult tasks involved with managing a black-box theater? The space gets turned over to a different show every hour here. It is sometimes a challenge to maintain certain aspects of the building such as the green room and tech booth, because things are moved around so frequently and equipment is used by various performers and technicians on any given night. We are thinking of bolting everything to the floor...or to the ceiling...or to audience members.Do you have any specific goals for the theater?1. Bring in more money. 2. Bring in more money. 3. Bring in more money. 4. You know, do more cool artistic stuff. For anyone who's interested in managing a theater, what's some really basic advice you can give them?Be proactive not reactive. What's one of the worst crises you ever had to handle, or were involved in, at Ars Nova? That said, did Tom Ridgely, former GM of The PIT, tell you about any major snafus that have taken place at The PIT since he came onboard?Crisis' at Ars Nova? Never! Well, there was this one time where Bridget Everett was performing in the Penthouse and thought it would be a good idea to dance/sing/gyrate on top of the pool table. She got carried away and whacked her head on the lighting fixture above the table and sent glass flying across the room. Tom Ridgely....those are hard shoes to fill. He never clearly stated that this happened to him, but he did tell me "Make sure you schedule classes far ahead of time. It really sucks when you have 6 improv students standing outside a locked studio in a blizzard." Now that's good advice!BONUS ROUND: The Apiary asked Katie to ask herself a hard-hitting question because The Apiary can be incredibly lazy and unimaginative.Katie, How do you feel about being the cutest most charming and most intelligent General Manager in New York City?Oh, stop. It's not about looks or charm. It's about professionalism and determination. Don't you think this sweater looks great on me?
