Prescott Tolk and TJ Miller
Last night, Chicago's TJ Miller took the UCBT stage with Prescott Tolk for a special performance of Bombast. The Bastion has been raving maniacally about TJ since day one. Even Jane Borden at Time Out New York got a good shirtsleeve tug from her midcoast sibs: "This Windy City show comes highly recommended from our compatriots at Time Out Chicago. See it for yourself." Not to slight Tolk, because he did a fine job of wringing giggles out of the crowd--but it's Miller who's being hailed as "The Golden Child of Chicago."
THE VERDICT: He's fast, fluid, has the delivery of a self-assured Conan O'Brien, and is more comfortable on-stage than a sleeping lamb in a pit of Mogu pillows. TJ has all the markings of a comedy megastar and we're very excited to see what's in store for him.

What is this "Chicago" you speak of? August 18, 2006 | Anthony TJ Miller is one of the most naturally funny standups I've ever seen. August 18, 2006 | Mandy Stadtmiller And to think, I've interrupted serious conversation with these two lads to ask for more beer money. Who do I think I am!? Seriously though, they're both amazing, as individual artists and as collaborators. August 18, 2006 | Michelle Eastwood Wow TJ, congrats on your success. One really hates to be the Colbert'er of bad news, but let the truthiness speak for itself: you are not from Chicago if you're not actually from Chicago.
Wake up, Improv scenesters. Mr. Miller and Mr. Tolk are surely fine, promising comics. But check the BIOs.
To call them "from Chicago" is a slight against the B.Murrays, C.Farleys, H.Sanz's and other future comics who were actual golden children in Chicagoland.
August 20, 2006 | Mr. Boz Sabeti TJ and Prescott are great. For more of them and the other top Chicago comics, check out www.blerds.com. August 20, 2006 | Brido Responding to Heather's comment-I agree-but Farley grew up in Madison, WI and and went to college at Marquette in Milwaukee. He didn't come to Chicago until he was 23.
