Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at 9:49AM Nick Kroll & John Mulaney have a knack for great character work. If you've seen them host Oh, Hello together as the kooky upper-west-side widowers they've invented, then you've probably woken up the next day to find yourself irresistibly talking, acting, and behaving just like 'em.

Nick Kroll, how did you guys come up the Oh, Hello characters?

These characters are based on two guys we saw at the Strand one afternoon. We followed them around the bookstore, began mimicking the way they walked and talked and the next thing we knew, we were talking like them. We spent all of our free time imagining what their world was like because, after all, there's a little middle aged, upper west side, widower in all of us. Who doesn't love Alan Alda, Steely Dan and a turtleneck/blazer combo? After awhile, we figured since we talked like them so much, we may as well share them with the world. And the world has responded -- every week people tell us that they saw the show and then spent the entire week talking like our characters -- "oh hello," "lets do cuh-caine" and people have actually gone home and made our signature drink: the martuna aka the tunatini (a tuna based martini). We truly love these guys.
