Friday Jul 09 2010 Portrait of a Comedian: Featuring Michael Che

Friday, July 9, 2010 at 5:10PM A new episode of Portrait of a Comedian--a bi-weekly show on Breakthru Radio featuring some of the top comedians in New York City--is available now.

> It’s the dawn of a new age at PoaC. In response to feedback from the listeners, we are now devoting each episode to just one comedian, complete with more in-depth interviews and longer performances. And for this first one, we’ve picked the right man for the job, Michael Che! Michael is a native New Yorker and relative newcomer to the scene who has already gained the respect and admiration of many of the comedians and audiences around the city. Tune in to hear him talk about growing up in the Lower East Side projects, cupcake shops as gentrification flags, and the bit that got him in some hot water with some fellow comedians. The name of the bit? Ferbles. Now you gotta listen.

Join Marcus Parks as he gets to know John F. O’Donnell and Mike Recine, who just happen to be second cousins! It’s the first family show on PoaC, so tune in to hear Mike talk about cigarette aficionados, Basic Instinct 2, and training his brother for the Special Olympics. Meanwhile, John tells us about his severe manic-depressive tendencies, his unique views on spirituality, and why he’d use the word 'sanitarium' over all others.

This here is a special one, as Marcus welcomes his very first musical comedy guests, Stuckey and Murray. Tune in to hear songs galore from the duo, plus an amazing interview in which they discuss their first meeting (it ended in a kiss), their upcoming show at Bama-Jam, and Murray’s song collaboration with Billy Ray Cyrus (seriously). We’ll also be hearing from one of my favorite newcomers here in the city, Mr. Matt Wayne! Tune in to hear him discuss accidents at the cereal factory, his love for the Buffalo Bills, and the devil’s role in music from the forties.
