Friday Sep 16 2011 TWO GUYS GOT MARRIED LAST NIGHT AT THE MAGNET THEATER
Friday, September 16, 2011 at 1:20PM
Video by M. Woody Fu
On an improv stage, whenever reality and make-believe intersect, the results are almost always fascinating, if not incredible. Last night was no exception as two heterosexual men were married in a civil service that was presided over by a justice of the peace. In the name of long-form improv, Jamaal Sedayao (Brick) wed Kyle Levenick as part of the "OH, SHIT!" challenge in the wildly popular Inspirado tournament. According to their Facebook profiles, Sedayao has agreed to take Levenick's last name. At least until the annulment takes place, which, according to some guy who yelled out at the theater last night, "Only costs $250!" Congratulations to the happy couple!
UPDATE: Jamaal informed me that "I'd like to annul the marriage, but I dread the thought of taking the trip down to the city council (or whichever office that handles annulments) to stand in line and fill paper work. Sounds like a trip to the DMV. No thanks. So I guess what I'm saying is I'd rather be married to a dude than do that. This marriage might last a couple weeks. Plus, I want to uphold the sanctity of the 'OH SHIT!' challenge. Live in it for a bit."

Fridays in December just got more awesome. Grand masters of improv and longtime lady pals Laura Krafft (The Colbert Report), Jodi Lennon (Exit 57) and Miriam Tolan (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart), take the Magnet stage in "What a Year! An Improvised Play." I asked Jodi Lennon for the important deets:
> "What a Year!" will be 30 minutes of improvisation. For a limited time, the three of us are in the same place at the same time. So we're thankful to get the 7PM Friday slots because they work with our crazy schedules.
If you're not familiar with Krafft, Lennon and Tolan, Lennon says:
> We were all in Chicago studying and performing improv in the '90s. I called the Annoyance Theater my home and performed with improv Olympic and at Second City. Laura and Miriam were both at Second City and iO, as well.
I met Miriam at Second City in Chicago and met Laura in Los Angeles. We had a lot of friends in common. I performed with Laura a bit in L.A. at an iO West show she hosted. I was hooked. I also did "Let's Have a Ball" with Laura at the UCBT-NY. Laura is super duper funny and smart.
Miriam and I saw each other around here in New York; we would do A.S.S.S.S.S.C.A.T. together occasionally or Conan bits. Miriam is also crazy funny and a smarty pants -- she kills me. And her accent is AMAZING. Miriam and I did a short run of a show called the Goofaround Gang at the UCB (me, Miriam, Brian McCann, Kevin Dorff and Jon Glaser). It was goofy improvisation.
* THE PLUG: Don't miss "What a Year! An Improvised Play," happening FRIDAYS @ 7PM at The Magnet Theater. And be sure to try out the Magnet's (relatively) new online reservation system -- it's the dog's bollocks! -- K.H.

Monday, August 23, 2010 at 3:26PM 25 Comedians Walk Into a Softball Game... | All photos: Sean Taylor By: Sean Taylor
Funnyball, a softball league comprising comedians from around New York City, held its inaugural "Dog Days of Summer Classic" this past weekend pitting students, performers and staff from the UCB and Magnet theaters against each other.
After nine innings, the Magnet held the 13 to 9 advantage but, it was clear, everyone wins in Funnyball!
Team captains Quinton Loder and Achilles Stamatelaky In a game featuring an infinite number of nicknames, "glove buddies," and scouting reports based on "batting gloves!" or "no batting gloves!" the level of skill was surprisingly high. Highlighted by great catches by MVP Jamaal Sedayao and Domenico Manzolillo, this game epitomized the motto of the league, "Funny people, serious softball...but not THAT serious!"I created and serve as Funnyball commissioner, and contrary to its name, Funnyball is a place off stage where comedians can take a timeout from being "funny." Soaking up the sun on Saturday afternoons in Central Park with no expectations and no audience is a far cry from the nightly leave-'em-laughing mentality of the New York comedy scene. But, I admit, in a sport where terms like "shagging," "balls," and "switchhitter" are commonplace, a certain level of comedy is inevitable. After the dust settled, team captains Achilles Stamatelaky (UCBT) and Quinton Loder (Magnet) led their respective teams to the bar for some post-game drinks, a symbolic christening of the first ever Dog Days of Summer Classic.Team UCB Team Magnet Theater * See more photos from the game here.
