Tuesday Dec 09 2008 Top 7 Twittering Television and Radio Personalities

Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 9:39AM We've been spending a lot of time on Twitter lately, glaze-gazing at an unending stream of commentary and minutiae. We are not alone. It turns out that SEVERAL FAMOUS RADIO AND TELEVISION PERSONALITIES do the same thing! Here's a list of seven of the ones who capture our attention for a few fleeting seconds before we compulsively refresh our feed and have our attention totally captured by somebody else (ad infinitum/nauseum).@scharplingWHO:Tom Scharpling, Host of The Best Show on WFMUSWEET TWEET U'VE MISSED: "waiting on line for the buffet. stupid on a saturday but I am dying for a plate of carrots."FOLLOW?: YES! Because you can now access Tom Scharpling's brain droppings in real time. And you can do so with any number of hearing impairments.@twitterkinsWHO: Paul F. Thompkins, Host of Best Week EverSWEET TWEET U'VE MISSED: "I tried to take pictures of the snowflakes with my phone but they wouldn't read, goddammit. HOW CAN I PROVE THAT IT SNOWED!"FOLLOW?: PROBABLY! With a Following to Followers ratio of 1:21 his tweets can take on a TWRAT PACK feel. On the other hand, we guess it is kinda weird to sit at a TWUNCH TABLE with total strangers. The moral here is that Twitter is fun for friends and shadowy bystanders alike.@oliviamunnWHO: Olivia Munn, Attack of the Show co-hostSWEET TWEET U'VE MISSED: "Is it normal for an 80-year-old woman to wink at you, hold the eye contact and then wink again. Cause it just happened. Just now. "FOLLOW?: IF YOU WANT TO! She seems like a nice lady.@jimmyfallonWHO: Jimmy Fallon, Future Late Night HostSWEET TWEET U'VE MISSED: "I'm getting started on twitter...."FOLLOW?: SURE! Three days ago we envisioned a world where he'd be Twittering and it turns out that day already happened five days ago. Ground floor, get in.@youngamericanWHO: Jesse Thorn, Creator of The Sound of Young AmericaSWEET TWEET U'VE MISSED: "Which interview should I podcast first: Kids in the Hall or Ben Folds? YOUR TWEETS WILL DECIDE!"FOLLOW?: DUH! The secret of public radio is YOU!@donlemoncnnWHO: Don Lemon, CNN talking headSWEET TWEET U'VE MISSED: "send us your questions for our job expert. we're trying to find ways to get you guys employed. live at 10pm ET. direct msgs won't get on."FOLLOW?: IF YOU WANT UR FEED CLOGGED! It's fun to watch Don's OCD rage completely out of control as he responds one by one to the 8000 people he follows.@hodgmanWHO: John Hodgman, Daily Show correspondent, the face of Personal ComputersSWEET TWEET U'VE MISSED: "To be clear, my reading tomorrow at the Park Slope B&N will be entirely @jonathancoulton -less. That is all."FOLLOW?: YEAH! Though many of his msgs read like Facebook superpokes @jonathancoulton, to the rest of Hodgman's followers, his recent book tour travels made him the most delightful to follow virtual person since Carmen Sandiego. Where will he tweet from next?

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 8:13AM REAL AMERICAN Conan O'Brien was SPOTTED voting today.Via: Gawker | Conan Votes Early and OftenYou know, Gawker's not the only source for up-to-the-minute original celebrity voting sightings. In fact, we SPOTTED this guy right behind us in our line. There's also a 40% chance we caught a glimpse of one of the Elephant Larry dudes on his way out the door. No exit polls were conducted. However, if it's exit polls you seek, The Onion is tweeting some exclusive data that might enable you to call this election before 7PM. Here's one:> Exit Poll 6:23 a.m. George Olmussen of Portland, ME voted for McCain, and he's tired of everyone asking him why in that tone #votereport

The Apiary | Post a Comment in They're Just Like Us Thursday Jun 19 2008 Paul Shaffer Watches the Make-Em-Ups

Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 8:40AM

SPOTTED! Paul Shaffer, leader of "The World's Most Dangerous Band," front row at the People's Improv Theater last night. Afterwards, Shaffer was overheard complimenting several performers from "Vacation Island" and "The Wilhelm." He said their shows reminded him of Second City in the '70s. What an awesome thing to say! According to Wikipedia, Shaffer began his musical career in 1972 as musical director for the Toronto production of "Godspell," which starred Victor Garber, Gilda Radner, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas and Andrea Martin.RELATEDShaffer was with his wife and two kids. His older daughter (above), who is 15, is interested in taking the Teen Improv Intensive in August. In one scene, after a performer yelled at her father, "Mom always said I should go to college because I'm not very smart!" Shaffer turned to his kids and smirked.

keithhuang | 1 Comment in They're Just Like Us Thursday May 15 2008 Doug Benson Enjoys Manhattan Nightlife

Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 12:53PM Comedians are JUST LIKE US--they love watching people rap and prance at the same time! Doug Benson and a ginger ladyfriend were SPOTTED by a reader last night at the Richard Rogers Theater catching a performance of the hit musical, In the Heights. Details have yet to emerge as to whether Mr. Benson went for some Prix-Fixe dining. Doug just did a Benson Interruption the other day at The UCBT. We imagine he's probably doing some other things here too.

The Apiary | 1 Comment in They're Just Like Us Tuesday Oct 02 2007 Rob Corddry SPOTTED Inside The Corddry Triangle

Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 10:09AM Motivated by the allure of toasted corn cobs, unlimited FREE Qur'ans, and mop demonstrations, The Apiary spent Sunday afternoon lethargically pottering down Atlantic Antic, an annual street fair in scenic Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. We thought it would be just an ordinary stroll on an ordinary day, but little did we know the place was teeming with COMEDY CELEBRITIES!SPOTTED: Kurt Braunohler + gang of friends!SPOTTED: Abbi Crutchfield + dude!SPOTTED: Rob Corddry + Jason Mantzoukas! We had totally forgotten we had stepped into The Corddry Triangle!--a hotzone for all Rob and Nate Corddry sightings. As The Heartbreak Kid star ambled through the crowd, it parted around him in a way that suggested, "OMG, A CELEBRITY!! I'M GONNA PLAY IT COOL, AVERT MY BEADY GLARE AND GIVE HIM MORE SPACE THAN I WOULD A REGULAR PERSON WALKING THROUGH THIS STREET FAIR. WHO'S THAT OTHER GUY?" (We know who you are, Jason!) As of press time, it is unknown what Mr. Corddry's business is here or whether he's back in Brooklyn for good. The neighborhood's morale has been so low ever since Heath Ledger left, perhaps a permanent return will cheer up the locals.

The Apiary | Post a Comment in They're Just Like Us Tuesday Jan 23 2007 Todd Barry Has Dinner With Louis CK

Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at 9:08AM Are Louis CK and John Mayer spending less time together? It seems Todd Barry might be coming between them. Mr. Barry made the following announcement on AST yesterday:> I'm scheduled to have dinner with Louis CK tonight at 8PM. I will try to post a recap tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

While the internet waits for Mr. Barry's update, Mr. C.K. published a recap of his own. Although, since we can't find "Vinnie's Place" in our ZAGAT Survey, we have reason to suspect his whole recount is fiction.> my dinner with todd. We ate at a small restaurant in the Village called "Vinnie's Place". I had never been there. Todd says he goes there all the time with his friend. He paused before he said friend. And I wasn't sure what that meant. But I was about to find out... [continue reading]
