Monday Oct 24 2011 Bill Carter to Spoil Ending of 'The War For Late Night' at 92YT

Monday, October 24, 2011 at 2:53PM If you haven't finished reading The War For Late Night yet, you better hurry because NY Times media maven, Bill Carter, intends to COMPLETELY RUIN the ending for anyone in earshot! He's discussing the book at the 92YTribeca on 10/26. This should make for a nice primer for the Conan tapings next week. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 5:48PM Dust off your Todd Margaret and Silent Bob cosplay outfits, NY Comic Con begins this week and it's not just for collecting Boris Vallejo crap anymore. As we saw with the San Diego convention, if you have any kind of TV show, movie, or failed pilot and your target demographic is VIRTUALLY NO ONE AGED 13-35, mobs of people will magically appear and wait in endless lines for hours to see you. To help navigate through the long list of panels and events, I took some screen caps of the stuff I'm interested in potentially seeing. Adult Swim is all over this thing and Comedy Central seems to be testing the waters too. Perhaps nothing though is more intriguing than the big Wand Dueling event on Friday. See you there??

Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 5:45PM Many will blame Chaz Bono for turning our precious babies into transchildren once they see him thrusting his concave pelvis for Bruno Tonioli's delight on Dancing With the Stars. But has America ever considered the gender-questioning damage done to our youngsters by Seth Herzog? Sweet, which is (probably??) the LONGEST RUNNING independently produced weekly comedy show in America run by a man shuffling in a Wonder Woman outfit, celebrates 7 years of existence tomorrow night with a good old fashioned birthday blowout at Webster Hall. Janeane Garofalo and John Mulaney will be there and Patton Oswalt might drop by too. But not because he wants to, he just needs to get away from all the stinky garbage surrounding his luxury LES hotel!

Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 3:45PM Ever since Apple stopped putting optical drives in their MacBook Airs, I've been trying to figure out what to do with ALL THE USELESS CD PLAYERS in my apartment. Should I donate them to the underprivileged? Should I use them to incite a Party City looting free-for-all? I learned today there's a reason to keep at least one around for just another couple of days: Comedy Central announced the release date of TJ Miller'sdebut stand up album, The Extended Play E.P.

> Among the fastest-rising comedy stars in the country, T.J. Miller, was named one of the "10 Comics to Watch" by Variety and one of the 12 Rising Stars of Comedy by Entertainment Weekly in 2008 and was included as one of ten comics to watch on COMEDY CENTRAL's "Hot List" in 2009. COMEDY CENTRAL Records releases T.J. Miller's "The Extended Play EP" CD on Tuesday, September 13.

> Miller's potential is realized on this amazing hip-hop/pop/folk album and for the first time he’s expressing himself both emotionally and physically through music. With guest stars galore, great beats, and lyrics you’ll be chewing over for months or at least the rest of the evening, this is more than a comedy rap album – it's a life soundtrack you can play loudly in your car. With videos (featuring said star guests) being released in the weeks prior to and through the CD release, the album is being launched in anticipation of Miller's hour special on COMEDY CENTRAL, which debuts later this year.

Friday, July 29, 2011 at 4:13PM

I'm anticipating the debut ofThe Apes of Wrath, a promising-sounding musical written and directed by Mark Sarianthat's scheduled for a UCB SPANK show on Thursday 8/4. Mark tells us, "It has a lot of great UCB performers in it and is a lock to be better than Rise of the Planet of the Apes. And it's a musical! And we're using actual ape foam latex prosthetics!" (Sounds like it could use some CGI.)

> The time is the near future. Apes supplant dogs and cats as household pets, and replace humans as waiters, landscapers, and even strippers. But during this tumultuous time, while apes secretly plan to overthrow their human oppressors, one universal constant remains: forbidden love.

FUN FACT: The Apes of Wrath is the title of a GWAR song. It's not my favorite GWAR song though.

Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 8:33AM Amy Sedaris is reportedly presenting and moderating Q&As with the filmmakers at two advance screenings TONIGHT of The Best and the Brightest at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema.

> Set in the world of New York City’s elite private kindergartens, THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST centers on a fresh-faced young couple from Delaware, Jeff (Neil Patrick Harris) and Samantha (Bonnie Somerville), who have only recently moved into town. The comedy centers on the extreme lengths they must go to in order to get their five-year-old daughter into school.

Screenings are taking place in other cities over the next couple of weeks; no wide release date has been set.
